Comparative Literature and Culture

In this course, we have endeavoured to lead an original approach to research on a variety of issues that encompass philosophy and thought, history, literature, art, and music, across regional or language barriers. We place importance on students having the freedom to conduct research based on their individual interests, relying on their own intelligence and intuition without being limited to preconceived approaches in existing academic frameworks. We support all students with sincere interest on their own research theme and readiness to embrace the intense academic training, so that they can continue to stretch themselves.

The course offers four interrelated research and education programs in Comparative Literature, Comparative Thought, Comparative Art, and Comparative Japanese Studies. In all of these programs, the most important skill is the ability to decipher and understand the target text, and then to express them in their own words. We aim to create a place in which all those with the serious desire and ability to challenge texts in any medium or in any modern or classical language can congregate for their enjoyment.
