Starting Date

May 1, 2018, or as early as possible thereafter.

Contract Term

Until March 31, 2019, then renewable annually until March 31, 2021, depending on budgetary conditions and evaluation of the employee’s work performance.

Job Details

To assist in the educational activities and general affairs of the Japan in East Asia Program (JEA) in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate Program on Global Society (GSP) in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.


Working Hours


Holidays and Paid Vacations

Weekends, national holidays, annual paid vacation, special summer paid vacation, and others as prescribed by the University of Tokyo regulations.


In accordance with the University of Tokyo regulations.

Additional Benefits

Transportation fees (according to eligibility criteria).

Social Insurance

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association and employment insurance.


Required Qualifications

a) Advanced working knowledge of Japanese and English.
b) A PhD in the humanities or social sciences completed prior to the start date.
c) Ability to give individual tutorials on English academic writing.

3) Summary of research and work experience (1000 characters in Japanese).
4) Three publications (one copy of each; photocopies acceptable). If none of the publications are written in English, please include an additional writing sample on an academic subject, composed in English).
5) Name, affiliation and contact information of two references.
6) Please enclose a self-addressed envelope (no stamp necessary).


Application Deadline

Thursday, February 15, 2018. For those who pass the initial document screening, an interview will be scheduled to take place in Tokyo. All travel and accommodation expenses will be paid for by the applicant, not by the university.
