Fixed-term Position in Spanish (TLP) College of Arts and Sciences, The University of Tokyo

Trilingual Program (TLP), Center for Global Communication Strategies (CGCS), College of Arts and Sciences



1) Teaching responsibilities: Six 105-minute classes per week, including Spanish language classes for Trilingual Program (TLP) in the Junior Division of the College of Arts and Sciences (first- and second-year undergraduate students) and specialized subjects taught in Spanish in the Senior Division (third- and fourth-year students). Development of teaching materials. The University of Tokyo has two 13-week semesters per year.
2) Other duties relating to the operation of international student exchanges, which include preparing and accompanying a Summer Program in some Spanish-speaking country.

* TLP is a special course within the Junior Division of College of Arts and Sciences, aimed at students who are considered to have a certain level of English Language proficiency. The objective is to nurture individuals who are proficient in not only Japanese and English, but also in one other foreign language. The Program lasts 3 semesters during the period of attendance at the Junior Division of College of Arts and Sciences.

Working hours



Holidays, paid vacations, and salary

Annual paid vacation, special summer paid vacation, and others as prescribed by the University of Tokyo regulations.



In accordance with the University of Tokyo regulations. Additional benefits such as transportation fees (kōtsūhi) to commute to the Komaba campus and rent subsidy (jūtaku teate) will be provided, as prescribed by the University of Tokyo regulations.


Social Insurance

Will be enrolled in the Mutual Society of Health Insurance of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and in employment insurance.


Required Qualifications

1) Native speaker of Spanish, or with an equivalent level of proficiency.
2) A PhD in the humanities or social sciences completed prior to the start date.
3) Previous experience of teaching Spanish at universities preferred.

Closing Date

The applications must arrive on November 9, 2018.
After the screening of the application documents, short-listed applicants will be interviewed in November. The interview will be conducted either at the University of Tokyo (Komaba Campus) or electronically (e.g., via Skype). The travel expenses must be paid by the applicants.
