IAGS Research Center for Sustainable Development

'Sustainable development' is a movement that aims to achieve long-term improvement of the quality of human life while generating minimal environmental damage, and is a key concept among the emerging research paradigm of 'human security'. The Center supports and promotes evidence-based research in areas that include the theoretical, historical and critical analyses of development and developmental policy; discourse analysis; field-based research in developing sites around the world; and action-based research for practitioners. We also hold seminars and symposiums, inviting researchers and practitioners from both Japan and abroad as guest speakers, and publish our research in regular newsletters. In this way, we aim to contribute the fruits of our research and educational activities back to the wider society.
