Changes in Academic Calendar and Class Hours (Academic Year 2015)
To Students of College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences,
For some time, the University of Tokyo has been working on a major reform of our overall
undergraduate curriculum. Now the details of the changes in the academic calendar and related
matters are taking shape, including the introduction of the Term System in Academic Year 2015.
This reform will result in major adjustments to the class hours and academic calendar in both the
College and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. I am writing to inform you of the main
changes and key points that have been decided so far so that you may be aware of these
developments in advance.
Also, the Junior Division of the College of Arts and Sciences will adopt a new curriculum
from Academic Year 2015. In principle, the curriculum will take effect with the 2015 April-entry and
September-entry students. For those who have already enrolled, the curriculum described in the
“Undergraduate Student Handbook I Junior Division (Gakubu-binran zenki-katei)” and “PEAK
Student Handbook” will still apply. However, there will be reorganization of some courses and
establishment of new courses, which will affect your study plan; the details of this reorganization
will be announced as soon as they have been decided.
