Content of Work Duties

1) Graduate level: The appointee will conduct lectures and seminars and provide research supervision in Japanese literature in the Department of Language and Information Sciences.
2) Undergraduate level (Senior Division for third- and fourth-year students): The appointee will teach and supervise students in the Section of Studies on Text, Culture, and Theory.
3) Undergraduate level (Junior Division for first- and second-year students): The appointee will teach language courses in English.
4) Administration and other duties related to the above activities.

Working Hours

Based on the discretionary work system for professional work, working hours are deemed to be 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)

Basic Salary will be decided after taking into account your academic background, professional background, etc. Wage Raise System: Yes
Example: Doctor / from JPY 340,000
Various Allowances: Bonus (twice a year), Commuting Allowance (in principal, up to JPY 55,000), and other allowances decided by the University

12.

Insurance

You will be automatically enrolled in insurance from the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and Employment Insurance.

13.

Qualification Requirements

1) Ph.D. in modern and contemporary Japanese literature (already received or expected to be received by the end of March 2021) or the equivalent.
2) Sufficient proficiency in Japanese to carry out administrative and other duties.
3) Previous experience in teaching at the university level is preferred.
4) The ability to teach and supervise students in both English and Japanese in the specified field is highly desirable.

2) Proof of receipt of most advanced degree (a photocopy is acceptable). If the degree has not yet been received, documentation, such as a letter from the head of the applicant's affiliated institution or his or her doctoral advisor, confirming the expected date of the granting of the degree.
3) A list of publications by category (articles, books, conference papers, etc.). Indicate three major accomplishments by circling them.
4) Three major publications (one copy each; photocopies are acceptable), including at least one item in English. The applicant may be asked to submit additional research accomplishments later.
5) A summary of the applicant's research history and a research plan (about one page in English or Japanese on A4 or letter-size paper).
6) A detailed description of the applicant's teaching philosophy (about one page in English or Japanese on A4 or letter-size paper).
7) The names, affiliations, and contact details of two referees.

Recommendations of potential candidates by others are also welcome. In such cases, the recommender should submit the following:
1) A brief résumé of the candidate (any format is acceptable).
2) A list of publications by category (articles, books, conference papers, etc.). Indicate three major accomplishments by circling them);
3) Three major publications (one copy each; photocopies are acceptable), including at least one item in English. Additional items may be requested later.
4) A letter of recommendation (about two A4 or letter-size pages in any format).

Application Deadline

Applications must be received no later than Monday, May 25, 2020. After the screening of application materials, interviews of selected applicants will be conducted.
Selection Process:
1) First stage: Evaluation of submitted documents.
2) Second stage: Applicants who pass the first stage will be interviewed in late June. Those residing in remote areas will be interviewed by video conference. Applicants who are invited to interview may be asked to teach a sample lesson. Travel and other expenses will be borne by the applicants.
* Due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19, interviews may be conducted exclusively through teleconference. We will provide you with further details after the completion of the first stage of the selection process.
