KOMEX: Experiential Leader Development Program
The Junior Scholars Collaboration Initiative (JSCI) builds on several initiatives related to first-year teaching from the former KOMED (Komaba Educational Development), in order to establish a program for the active development of student support initiatives that reflect the ethos of KOMEX. The program has two main aims: the establishment of a learning community, and the encouragement of early exposure to future opportunities.
For the former, the Initiative organises a variety of projects created and managed jointly by students and faculty, such as a peer advisory scheme for new students by older students; 'Fresh start @ Komaba', an orientation event for prospective students; campus tours, etc.
For the latter, the Initiative has developed the Early Exposure Laboratory (E.E. Lab), where program faculty provides students with the opportunity to sample the type of research that goes on in the Senior Division and in the Graduate School, as well as various activities in the private sector and wider society. Early Exposure classes are also supported by non-program faculty. In addition, the Initiative also guides student groups in publicity activities, such as constructing a website for the 'Ideal Learning Environment' that opened at the Komaba campus in fall 2011.
