Department of Humanities and Social Sciences: Social and International Relations

Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies SectionArea Studies SectionSocial and International Relations

With the Department of Social and International Relations as its predecessor, the Social and International Relations Section is composed of two courses, 'Interdisciplinary Studies of Social Sciences' and 'International Relations', and seeks to conduct integrated social sciences research, and to apply the findings to the real world and to the global society. The two courses differ in curriculum (in terms of course requirements) but they both aim to transcend the limitations of compartmentalisation and adopt a cross-cutting approach to issues of today's increasingly globalised society, whilst paying due attention to the achievements of the traditional social sciences (economics, law, political science and sociology).
Many faculty members teach classes spanning over both courses, and students too can audit classes from both courses.
The admissions procedure for the Senior Division is handled all together under the Section of Social and International Relations, but incoming students will need to choose one of the two courses after being granted admission.
