International Relations Interdisciplinary Social Sciences

International Relations

International Relations is a relatively new field of study that was introduced to Japan after the Second World War, and the Komaba Campus became the first in Japan to conduct full-fledged research and teaching in this discipline. In keeping with this tradition, the International Relations course today is one of the leading centres in Japan for research and teaching in this field. International Relations is a multiplex discipline that seeks to analyse such issues as value allocations that transcend national borders, and the processes, policies and systems for realising such values, and it requires a deep systematic knowledge across a wide array of subjects including international economics, international law, and international politics. To meet such demands, this course is comprised of leading academics whose research spans right across the social sciences from economics and law to politics and sociology, and graduate students on the course benefit from the supervision and stimulation offered by these researchers, whist also having the freedom to deepen their research and ideas in an open atmosphere. As a graduate-level educational institution, this course (and its predecessor) already boasts over half a century of history, and many of its graduates can be found in a variety of leading positions across the globe today.
