Trilingual East Asian Studies Program

The "Trilingual East Asian Studies Program" has been inaugurated as a development and transformation of the Trilingual Program (TLP) for senior students. As part of the education for senior undergraduate students at the East Asian Academy for New Liberal Arts at the University of Tokyo, it aims at establishing the basis for a type of academic research that, while employing English, Chinese, and Japanese and traversing the four axes of "World Philosophy," "World History," "World Literature," and "Future Society and Health," can take root in East Asia. With its claim of "Liberal Arts Developed from East Asia," EAA is a project which attempts to establish new forms of scholarship in East Asia, through a unity of academic research and education. By means of the international network provided by EAA, the program offers diverse experiences of study abroad, including an exchange program with Peking University. In its core curricula which favor group discussion sessions, students are able to read classic texts together with instructors and graduate students, and to learn methods of reading texts both critically and situationally while using several different languages.

We welcome all those students who have the will to usher in new scholarship for thirty years in the future.
