The objective of the Latin American Studies course is to gain an interdisciplinary understanding of the regional cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is also possible to conduct research on Spain, a country that has exerted considerable influence on these regions as their former colonizing power.

The main feature of this course is our range of teaching staff across a broad range of disciplines, including Spanish language, literature, politics, economics, sociology, history and cultural anthropology, thus allowing students to gain a strong foundation for understanding the multifaceted and complex nature of Latin America. There are some courses that require a high level of proficiency in Spanish; however, we do offer intensive courses for those students who have not studied Spanish before the start of the course (i.e. October of second year).

Thanks to the AIKOM (Abroad in Komaba) exchange program and other study abroad systems, students are provided with numerous opportunities to study or conduct research overseas. This is a course with a cosy, at-home atmosphere, which is also frequented by many graduate and exchange students.
