KOMEX Division for Science Communication

The Science Interpreter Training Program was established in 2005 as an educational minor program for graduate students at the University of Tokyo to study science communication. Our aim is to educate students to be catalysts who combine science and society, and we have, thus far, reared and graduated more than 100 students. The program had, since 2010, been managed by the Division of Science Interpreter Training Program which belongs to KOMEX, but in 2023 the division changed its name to "the Division for Science Communication."

In addition to its ongoing role as an educational program that rears science interpreters, "the Division for Science Communication" also promotes research activities focused on science communication and public engagement activities. These three endeavors--education, research and public engagement--are interrelated and contribute to each other. These three endeavors help the division engage in science communication more comprehensively.
