KOMEX Division of Educational Transformation

Starting in the 2023 academic year, the three previous Divisions in the Komaba Organization for Educational Excellence (KOMEX), namely the Division of Advanced Education in Science, the Division of Active Learning and Teaching, and the Division of First-Year Education, merged to establish the new "Division of Educational Transformation (EX)." The goal of this new division is to integrate the knowledge cultivated by the former three Divisions, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the first-year education, which is becoming increasingly important especially in Komaba. In particular, one of the main objectives is to develop active learning methods utilizing educational DX (Digital Transformation) techniques. Our mission is to achieve a qualitative educational transformation (EX) through educational DX, focusing on first-year education. This initiative aims to rear individuals who can identify challenges on their own, collaborate with those around them, and utilize a broad perspective to solve problems, thereby adapting to an uncertain future and driving change. The main tasks of the Division of EX include: early exposure to various fields, including the natural sciences; utilizing cutting-edge technology in liberal arts education; promoting and advancing active learning methodologies; planning and operating small-group tutorial classes known as "First-Year Seminars" for humanities or science students; and the operation and class support of the Komaba Active Learning Studio (KALS).
