【受賞】言語情報科学専攻の追田好章助教がKenneth B. Pyle Prizeを受賞
大学院総合文化研究科言語情報科学専攻所属の追田好章助教が、Society for Japanese Studiesより、Kenneth B. Pyle Prize for Best Article in JJS (Journal of Japanese Studies) を授与されました。
本賞は、日本研究の学術誌であるJournal of Japanese Studiesの創設者・歴史学者のKenneth B. Pyle氏の功績を記念し、一年間に同誌に掲載された論文の一つに対して贈られるものです。

"Homoerotic Solutions: Colonial Queer Desire and Postwar Sexual Politics in Ōta Ryōhaku's 'Kurodaiya' (1949)." The Journal of Japanese Studies 49, no. 1 (2023): 85-116.
【受賞理由】
For 2023, the selection committee commends Yoshiaki Otta's study, "Homoerotic Solutions: Colonial Queer Desire and Postwar Sexual Politics in Ōta Ryōhaku's 'Kurodaiya'" (1949), for the new analytical framework it proposes to examine colonial oppression and decolonization, offering an important revisionist reading of Ōta Ryōhaku's "Kurodaiya." Centering the narrator's homoerotic desire for a young Indonesian revolutionary allows Otta to productively engage a matrix of Japan, Okinawa, Indonesia, and the United States, thus advancing the boundary-crossing scholarship the Journal of Japanese Studies is keen to advance.
